At the beginning of the visit, Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu were received by The Emir at the Emir’s Palace in Doha (Amiri Diwan). During the meeting, the Emir and his guests evoqued the development of economic relations between Romania and The State of Qatar as well as the bilateral relations in education, culture and scientific research.
Their Royal Highnesses visited the Education City, the main project of the Qatar Foundation. The Qatar Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1995 by the Emir and its aim is to build human capital in the State of Qatar through it’s three pillars: education, scientific research and community development. The Education City is focused on pursuing excellence and was created in order to lead Qatar’s drive to become an advanced knowledge-based society. The campus is spread over 1,000 hectares and has prestigious partners: Cornell Medical College, Texas A&M University, Georgetown University and North-western University.
Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu visited the Al Jazeera TV Headquarters. Established in 1996, the News Channel is considered to be a reliable source of information and it is today the most viewed television in the Muslim countries.
Their Royal Highnesses were the guests of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, and visited the Souk Wakif, a traditional market of local handcrafts. Princess Margarita and Prince Radu also visited Al Shaqab, the Royal Stables, a project included in the Qatar Foundation.
On the last day of the visit, Their Royal Highnesses visited the Qatar’s Pearl. The project, developed by United Development Company - the country's largest private sector shareholding company, is an artificial island of more than 400 hectares. The Qatar’s Pearl Project is expected to be completed in the year 2011, and to become a unique cultural experience that integrates the best of the country's past and present.
