In the first place, he is the only king in the world still alive eighty-three years after his coronation. In the second place, he is one of the few kings in history to have reached the age of ninety. He is, of course, the only head of state in the entire history of Romania to live to such an old age.
King Michael is also a hero of the twentieth century, a hero that neither Europe nor Romania fully recognise for his political, military, diplomatic, cultural and social contribution to the continent’s history.
